The ASTEP (Advanced Solar Thermal Energy for Process Heating) project team is delighted to have participated in EuroSun 2024, held from August 26 to 30, in Limassol, Cyprus. This prominent international conference, organized by the International Solar Energy Society (ISES) and the IEA Solar Heating and Cooling Programme, brought together experts to discuss cutting-edge solar energy technologies and innovations.
The ASTEP project aims to develop a novel solar energy concept for industrial applications, demonstrated in two case studies: Mandrekas dairy industry and ArcelorMittal Tubular Products. The project involves innovative technologies like the SunDial rotatory Fresnel solar collector and phase-change material thermal storage. After testing these systems, they will be deployed in Greece and Romania to evaluate their performance under real conditions.
The ASTEP project showcased its pioneering efforts in harnessing solar thermal energy for industrial applications at the conference. the ASTEP-dedicated exhibition booth provided a platform for engaging with a wide audience, sharing insights, and demonstrating the project’s innovative solutions.
Additionally, the ASTEP presented a poster detailing our recent advancements and contributions to the field. The ASTEP project, funded by the European Commission, advances solar thermal energy for industrial processes (SHIP) by integrating innovative SunDial solar collectors and phase-change material thermal storage. This approach reduces fossil fuel consumption and emissions and aims to meet significant industrial heat demand at challenging latitudes.
