The ASTEP project was featured at the Energy Storage 2025 event held in Barcelona on January 22–23, where cutting-edge energy storage technologies were presented to an international audience.
Represented by Juan P. Solano from the Universidad Politécnica de Cartagena (UPCT), ASTEP unveiled a poster titled:
The poster highlighted the construction and testing of Latent Thermal Energy Storage (LTES) units, designed to work in conjunction with ASTEP’s solar thermal system. Three LTES units have been built and installed at Mandrekas Dairy Industry (Greece) and ArcelorMittal (Romania), aiming to decarbonise industrial heat processes.
The system features:
A 30 kWh latent heat capacity using a KNO₃–NaNO₃ eutectic mixture.
305 innovative alloy inserts for enhanced heat transfer.
Integration with the SunDial rotary Fresnel collector.
Rigorous validation at UPCT using a high-temperature closed-loop test setup.
This participation underlines ASTEP’s commitment to advancing sustainable energy storage solutions for industrial applications.
